Following weeks of regulatory scrutiny and threats of a nationwide ban, gaming platform Roblox and Philippine government agencies have issued a joint statement announcing the rollout of new age-restricted account types and a direct reporting channel for child safety concerns.
The April 14, 2026 statement, issued collaboratively by Roblox, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), outlines the implementation of “Roblox Kids” and “Roblox Select” accounts. The platform will automatically assign these account types to younger users based on mandatory age checks.
Roblox Kids

According to the global guidelines, the “Roblox Kids” account will be assigned to children aged 5 to 8. Under this tier, in-game chat is disabled by default, and access is restricted to games with “Minimal” or “Mild” content maturity ratings.
Roblox Select
Users aged 9 to 15 will be placed in a “Roblox Select” account. This tier grants access to games with up to a “Moderate” rating. While chat functionalities are available, they are filtered and restricted to communication with users of similar ages and those added as Trusted Friends.
Roblox is also expanding its suite of parental controls. The update will allow parents to manually block specific games, approve access to restricted games, and manage direct chat settings for children up to age 15.
DICT Welcomes Overhauls
DICT Secretary Henry Aguda welcomed the safety overhauls, emphasizing that the government will continue to monitor their execution.
“Roblox’s introduction of enhanced safety features is a welcome development in addressing the risks faced by young users online. However, these measures must translate into real, measurable protection, and we will continue to monitor their implementation closely,” Aguda stated.
Direct Reporting ‘Green Lane’
As part of the localized compliance measures, Roblox has granted the CICC and the Philippine National Police (PNP) a “green lane” for expedited incident reporting.
CICC Undersecretary Renato “Aboy” Paraiso confirmed that parents and guardians can now report platform-specific grievances directly through the government’s 1326 Hotline.
“Because of the green lane that Roblox granted to the CICC and the PNP, parents and guardians can now report any Roblox concerns to our Hotline 1326, particularly the cases involving harmful contents and encounters with threat actors within the platform,” Paraiso explained. He also urged parents to actively monitor their children’s digital activities.
The Banning Timeline
The joint announcement follows a tense period of regulatory ultimatums.
- Late March 2026: Following mounting reports of child sexual exploitation and grooming, the DICT and CICC issued a stern warning to Roblox, initially threatening a nationwide blockade if safety measures were not improved.
- Early April 2026: Regulators imposed an April 10 deadline for compliance, with major local telecommunications companies publicly stating their readiness to enforce IP and API filters against the platform.
- April 7, 2026: The ban was temporarily deferred after Roblox executives flew to Manila for high-level meetings and agreed to implement “safety-by-design” overhauls.
- April 13, 2026: The DICT revealed that Roblox is formally studying the establishment of a local data center in the Philippines to improve service delivery and signal a long-term commitment to the market.
- April 14, 2026: The joint statement is released, confirming the local implementation of the safety features.
The new age-based accounts are scheduled to roll out globally on the platform by early June 2026.
